Getting Ready for Retirement

Susan and Larry loved their neighbourhood in Northmead Village, Copperfield – in fact, they were already thinking ahead to retirement and making sure their house was truly their ‘forever home’. Designing a New Space

With Kevin on board as project manager, Susan and Larry began the exciting task of designing their dream kitchen. With its old wooden cabinetry, a turquoise color scheme, and an impractical island that impeded workflow, one thing they both agreed on was that the existing kitchen needed to go – and fast! In its place, the couple wanted a spacious and functional kitchen that would reflect their personalities.

Kevin listened to their ideas and priorities, and designed a concept that was spacious, ultra-functional, and fun! Two walls would be removed to open the space up and allow for a U-shaped kitchen with a classic ‘working triangle’ to be installed, featuring a mix of bright white elements and bold colour. A breakfast bar with pendant lighting, open shelving, and feature tile were included, as well as new timber flooring. 

Transformation Begins

Once Susan and Larry were completely happy with the detailed plans and costings for their renovation, the major transformation could begin. Kitchen renovations require multiple tradespeople, including builders, tilers, floorers, cabinetmakers, electricians, and plumbers. With walls being removed, there was also reframing and painting to consider. Hiring and coordinating tradespeople is often one of the most time-consuming tasks during a renovation but with Kevin in charge, Larry and Susan could simply sit back and relax! Kevin utilised his existing network of trusted suppliers and tradespeople to coordinate a quality crew to deliver Susan and Larry’s kitchen on time and on budget.

A New Kitchen With Personality Plus

In just four months, Kevin and his team completely transformed Susan and Larry’s kitchen from cramped and confusing to a bright and spacious hub that looks sensational. By removing a hallway and dining room wall, the once closed off kitchen space was completely opened, allowing for a functional design with plenty of room to cook up a storm.

Susan and Larry let their personality shine through with their design choices, opting for bold, blue cupboards and a similarly bright tile backsplash to bring fun and flair to the space. These contrast with beautiful countertops, white upper cabinetry and fresh white ceilings and walls to balance out the space. A farmhouse sink adds to the charm, while richly toned timber flooring completes the new look.

Final Words

Susan and Larry can now look forward to retiring in their forever home with a stunning kitchen that feels fun and fresh. The wraparound backsplash utilising hexagon tiling is a hero feature in the space and a refreshing change from the ubiquitous white subway tile.
