Incorporating two storeys, this early 2000s home in Flagstaff offered plenty of space for family to enjoy but was let down by its dated interior design. A complete makeover of the kitchen, family bathroom, and en suite transformed these hardworking home hubs into sophisticated and stylish spots that the owners love.
Y2K fashion might be all the rage in the apparel scene, but when it comes to home interiors, it’s best to move on from dated colours and design. Karen loved her 2000s Flagstaff home, but knew it was definitely time to say goodbye to the original kitchen and bathrooms. She had never tackled a major renovation before but liked the positive reports about Refresh Renovations given by a friend. So she reached out to her local Renovation Consultants Lawrie and Mandy Foster to see if they could help.
Lawrie and Mandy arranged a free consultation with Karen to discuss her renovation goals and ideas, and to explain the 5-step Refresh process that keeps renovations on track and on budget. Karen noted that her unappealing kitchen was also less than functional and had limited storage – which made keeping up with teen appetites difficult! The family bathroom and en suite looked dated, and she wanted a renovation that would transform them into stylish sanctuaries.
Lawrie and Mandy developed a concept to meet all of Karen’s renovation ideas and goals. With a big family Christmas planned, it was critical that the kitchen was completed in time, so it was decided to tackle the project in two stages.
First would be the kitchen and family bathroom makeover to ensure it was ready for the holidays; then the en suite would be renovated in the new year. Because Refresh focus on custom renovations that are tailored to your needs, we can always deliver a timeline that works for you.
Karen’s renovation would be design-led, with a focus on practical spaces that delivered a wow factor. Lawrie and Mandy would be Karen’s single point of contact throughout the entire renovation, making the process as straightforward and stress-free as possible.
With a clear work plan and budget in place, the exciting renovation could begin. The questionable blue kitchen was removed, along with the dated family bathroom fixtures, providing a blank slate for a total refresh.
The new kitchen design largely used the same footprint, but in a much more functional way that added loads of storage space together with a handy breakfast bar. In both bathrooms, the focus would be on a clean and bright feel, with neutral tones and beautiful fixtures and design elements including a free-standing tub, vessel top vanity, and walk-in tiled shower.
Lawrie and Mandy had an established network of suppliers and tradespeople they trusted, so work on the first stage was able to begin immediately. From plumbers, plasterers, and painters to cabinet makers, tilers, interior designers, and more, Lawrie and Mandy expertly managed every detail of the two-stage renovation, including the necessary council consent.
Karen’s kitchen underwent an incredible transformation. Gone are the dated cupboards and awkward high benchtops, and in their place is a striking designer kitchen that has delivered on both form and function. Top cupboards and a beautifully tiled backsplash now wrap an entire corner of the kitchen, creating a much more open feel than the previous design. A wide benchtop that doubles as a long breakfast bar has been installed, with a beautiful wood panelling feature underneath providing a stunning contrast to the classic white kitchen.
An open corner cabinet, also featuring wood, is a clever tie-in that provides an eye-catching and interesting design element. For appliances, a double dish drawer, double oven, and extra-large gas hob means Karen can keep up with the demands of hungry teenage appetites! Extra details such as LED lighting under the cupboards and an instant boiling water tap provide the icing on the cake for Karen.
With the bathrooms, Lawrie and Mandy certainly delivered on creating stylish sanctuaries. The family bathroom features a luxurious free-standing tub, a vessel top vanity, and a half tile wall. The large shower with frameless glass and a rain-shower head offers functional style and luxury; the en suite harbours a walk-in tiled shower.
Karen’s home has been transformed by these total renovations of her kitchen and bathrooms. The dated designs have been replaced by stunning spaces that are supremely functional and look fantastic. A palette of neutrals throughout delivers a bright contemporary look that feels warm and welcoming.
Mandy and Lawrie are thrilled with the outcome. “This is truly a renovation where the results speak for themselves,” says Mandy. “The renovation was design-led, and the outcome was stunning. The kitchen and bathrooms are beautiful, contemporary spaces with designer details that the client loves.”
