Garage conversion and pergola installation in Melbourne

When homeowner Karen began to feel like her family was running out of space within their three-bedroom home, she began looking into the possibility of a garage renovation. She wanted to create a rumpus room that would offer her children a large space to play in, and that would declutter her home in the process.
“We knew we wanted to stay in our home as long as possible but, with only three bedrooms and one living space, room was getting tight with toys galore after having our son in 2017”, explains Karen in a 5-star Google review. “I reached out to the land of Facebook and a friend reached out and advised that her brother in law Leigh owned his own renovations business and to have a look.
I jumped onto the Facebook page and immediately saw a garage conversion and loved the results. I knew what I wanted and I knew I wanted quality work and I didn’t want to have to deal with organising tradies etc. myself so it worked out well to go through someone who would do it all for us.”
Leigh met with Karen and her family to discuss their ideas, noting that storage was high on the family’s list of priorities for the garage renovation. For added space and usability, the family were also interested in including a pergola in their garage update.
“We met with Leigh and he went through the process and straight away we felt comfortable with him”, tells Karen.

Garage conversion design

Leigh and his team supported Karen and her family in putting together a plan for their garage conversion. This included the selection of carpeting, an AC system, the styling of the pergola, discussions surrounding electrical installations, window installations and storage options. Working drawings were put together, trade costs factored in and, from there, Leigh was able to provide Karen with a clear pre-build cost estimate. The project design was then slightly adjusted to meet the family’s budget. 
“Once we agreed to the price and the permit was approved, it was all steam ahead from there”, recalls Karen.

Garage renovation

Leigh scheduled in his team to carry out the demolition and waste removal, wall framing, electrical work, interior lining, plastering, carpeting, carpentry work and window glazing. Two barn-style doors were custom made and installed into the garage entryway and the back hallways. Throughout this work, Leigh kept Karen up to date with the progress of her renovation.
“Any questions throughout the process Leigh was very quick to respond and any concerns he was right on top of it and onto it promptly”, explains Karen.
When construction was complete, Leigh’s team took care of the rumpus room’s interior design and carried out painting and decorating work. Within 28 days, Karen was presented with her spacious new rumpus room. 

Final thoughts

“Whilst the cost of doing jobs like this doesn’t come cheap, especially when you are using a renovation specialist, it does take the stress out of having to arrange tradies, quotes, etc., and that, for us, meant more than saving some money”, explains Karen.
“Overall, we are very, very happy with the renovation. It has allowed us to stay in our home, which we built, for many more years and provided us with much more room and a lovely outdoor pergola for the upcoming summer.
